FAQ

At your first appointment, you will have the opportunity to share at your own pace the issues you would like assistance with and consider what changes you would like to achieve.  I will share my understanding and provide you with information and recommendations. You will experience my approach as interactive, compassionate, genuine and collaborative.

Initial and subsequent appointments are approximately 50 minutes.  Please note that if you are running late, it is unlikely that your session time will be extended.

The number of sessions you will require will depend on the issues you are facing and your goals.  Most evidence-based treatments require between 10 – 20 sessions.  People tend to improve faster with weekly appointments.  Depending on progress, sessions may extend to fortnightly or monthly intervals.  For people who have experienced trauma or complex relationship dynamics, they may require longer-term psychological care.

Yes, I offer psychology online sessions via Zoom across Australia, which are the same cost as face-to-face sessions.  You will need a confidential space and reliable internet connection.

Some appointment times are available before and after standard business hours – both in my office at Ballina and online.

You do not require a referral from a general practitioner (GP) or other health specialist to see me.  However, if you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.

Fees are similar to the Australian Psychological Society recommendations.  As a private Clinical psychologist I do not offer bulk billing.

Payment is required on the day of the appointment.  Payment can made via debit or credit card (Mastercard and Visa only).  If you would like to pay with cash, please ensure that you have the exact payment with you as cash is not stored on the premises.

You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate through the Better Access to Mental Health Care scheme.  Under this scheme a referral may be provided by a general practitioner, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. They will assess your eligibility for a Mental Health Care Plan and provide you with paperwork to bring to your first appointment.

As of July 2024, the Medicare rebate for a 50 – 60 minute clinical psychologist consultation is $141.85

If you are covered by the Medicare safety net, your out-of-pocket expenses will be substantially less.

Most private health funds provide rebates for psychological services.  Your ability to access a rebate from a private health fund will depend on your level of cover.

Please note that you cannot claim Medicare rebates and private health fund rebates at the same time.

If  you have a NDIS plan and approval for psychological services, you can contact me for an appointment.  Depending on how your plan is managed, there may be a gap fee.

Your appointment time is set aside specifically for you.

You will receive a text message reminder 48 hours before your consultation.

If you cancel at the last moment, it is very unlikely that someone else will be able to use your time.  If you do not attend your appointment or cancel without 24 hours’ notice you will incur the full session fee.

Please note that you cannot claim rebates from Medicare or private health funds for a cancellation fee.
